When I read that we’ll experience a full moon, a lunar eclipse and see a comet all in one night, suddenly the lyrics to Hal Ketchum’s song “Small Town Saturday Night” popped into my head. Specifically, the part when he sings, “… gonna howl at the moon, shoot out the light….” Yes. We know that the song says Saturday night, and the full moon is actually Friday night. I think it’s the excitement for this gorgeous weather that has our brains going coo-coo. That’s our story and we’re stickin’ to it.
Now, back to the part of the story about the full moon, lunar eclipse and comet all in one night… February’s full moon is called a “Snow Moon” for the fact that, historically, we see the most snowfall in the month of February. The lunar eclipse should be most visible to us around 6:44 p.m. CST. The eclipse is expected to end at 8:53 p.m. The other cosmic creation we can see is a comet shooting across the eastern sky in the early morning hours. Sounds like the comet will be hard to see with the naked eye.
